Halloween is one of the younger generation’s favorite holidays, and for good reason. Who doesn’t love to spend an evening dressing up with friends and walking around your neighborhood, then spending the whole night eating delectable treats? Exactly. However, we at The Print do believe there is a hierarchy of the most loved (or hated) candies, and we’re here to tell you why.
1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
When you get Reese’s peanut butter cups, you better just stop trick-or-treating because you can’t get any better than this. How can you resist?! After biting into the sweet, hard chocolatey exterior, you reach the contrasting but equally as wonderful soft peanut butter interior. This is the ultimate holy grail and NUMBER 1 COP OF THE SEASON. We don’t care if you have a peanut allergy. This is something you can not miss out on.
2. Kit-Kats
Although KitKat isn’t nearly as good as Reese’s, they pass as a close second. They may be basic, but they are a classic on October 31st. The simple pairing of the chocolate and the wafer is something many may try to replicate, but we all know KitKat does it best. When eating these scrumptious chocolates, the best, and arguably the only way to eat Kit-Kats is Kourtney Kardashian’s Way.
3. Yupi Food-Themed Gummies
Yupi food-themed gummies may be small, but the glory and wonder of a food-themed gummy is something that stays with us forever. They can be disassembled so you can eat them piece by piece, allowing you to savor the mouth-watering chewiness (rather than those inferior gummy bears that you eat in one bite, then forget about). Yupi food-themed gummies rightfully claim a spot in our top 3 and if you have something to say about it, we aren’t listening.
4. Snickers
When you mix the crunchy peanuts with the sweet, gooey caramel, this sweet treat is irresistible. The delectable combination makes this chewy treat a joy to eat. However, it does have its shortcomings. Make sure to be careful while eating them; their tough exterior and chewy texture can lead to tooth breakage. Furthermore, we believe they are too similar to their inferior counterpart, Mars bars.
5. Pop Rocks
Pop rocks are inarguably the most fun candy you can get on Halloween. The fact that the moment they hit your tongue, you can taste the mix of the sweet rock candy, as well as the crunchy pop, shows just how good these candies are. Although these candies captivate the taste buds, we find that Pop Rocks can be a relatively hard find which is why they move down on our tier list. However, if you ever do find these candies we suggest adding a lollipop to dip in if you want to experience the full range these candies have to offer.
6. Sour Patch Kids
There’s nothing better than sour candy on the night of the 31st. Not only does Sour Patch Kids offer a range of different flavors – red sour patch being the best, obviously – but, they’re also addicting. When you bite into them, you are met with an initial sour, acidic taste but; as they melt away in your mouth you encounter the sweetness they have to offer.
7. Hersey’s Kisses
Hershey’s kisses are a classic. A miniature version of the glorious Hershey’s milk chocolate bar, these little treats can be the perfect way for cheapskates to skimp on candy. However, this is not to say we don’t love milk chocolate – its just basic. On Halloween, we want some more flavor, excitement, and variance!
8. White Rabbits
White rabbits are the perfect way to incorporate local Singaporean culture into Halloween. The milky taste is mouthwatering. However, their shortcoming is their texture and consistency. At first, these candies flake like paper, and you don’t know whether or not you’re going to ingest the wrapper or the candy. If you are one of the few that can overcome this conundrum, this candy is like superglue to your teeth. The taste most definitely trumps the texture, but not enough to be a high-ranker.
9. M&M’s
Although M&M’s may be a classic, there is no point hiding the fact that they’re plain basic. You can find them at every 3rd house you go to on Halloween. There comes a point during the night where you decide enough is enough and collecting M&M’s becomes a chore rather than an enjoyable thing. However, we’ll let the M&M’s slide for this one, they’ve been a classic for too long and can only tolerate so much slander.
10. Skittles
The only good thing about skittles is their vibrant colors. Other than that, if you get skittles on Halloween, the best decision would be to throw them away or give them to someone you dislike. DON’T ruin your night by eating these disgusting chewy pills. Not only is the taste weirdly sour, but the texture will leave you wanting to die. Do yourself a favour and stay away from skittles.
In all, the most important thing you should take away from this article is that skittles are the single most distasteful candy you can get on Halloween. Even though these rankings may not be to your liking, they are objectively the only ones that matter. When the 31st of October reaches around the corner, make sure to take this list with you – trust us.
