The turn of the new school year has ushered in the conventional orientations typical of each grade level. Grade 7’s are getting to know the MYP, P2 has been introduced to grade 10s, CAS to grade 11s, and the foreboding responsibilities that lie beyond graduation now weigh on our seniors. Amongst this paradoxical blend of monotony and chaos, it can be easy to forget what’s important; certainly, there’s a world much bigger than ours, that transcends our immediate grasp, and continues to move irrespective of how we feel about it now. But that is not to say we as individuals don’t hold any significance or impact, for, if we choose to ascertain all we can about the world, we can approach every subsequent interaction with enlightenment and empathy.
In line with this sentiment, it must be noted that the experiences of every individual deserve a platform to be voiced, regardless of how ostensibly innocuous to some. Which is where your student-run newspaper comes in. As Editors-in-Chief, throughout the process of running The Print, we intend to tirelessly uphold this core belief of free, courageous, and bold speech. However, we acknowledge that contentious opinions and ideas must be substantiated with thoughtful insight and evidence. No opinion should ever go unchallenged or avoid thoughtful critique. As the new year continues to unfold, we encourage the school community to participate in such dialogue, and we hope to spark newfound interest in global events, art, school culture and much more. In doing so, we hope to foster the passion of the CIS student community in their constant pursuit of knowledge. With the new additions of web design, marketing and artist teams, we also aim to give those less inclined towards the literary arts a platform to express themselves and put their talents to good use. We even have a new podcast on our website for you to enjoy!
Fundamentally, The Print hopes to support and encourage student advocacy within CIS. We hope to expand our scope, establish a well-meaning reputation and ensure a legacy, not necessarily of The Print, but of a sentiment which encourages passion, communication and respect for the pursuit of knowledge. We invite you to join us on our journey.
